The chain for a foreign degree.
The United Arab Emirates is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. An apostille alone is not accepted, whatever an agent abroad tells you. A foreign degree needs full consular legalisation, in order:
- 01Country of issueLegalisation by the issuing country's authority and its ministry of foreign affairs.
- 02UAE embassy thereAttestation by the UAE embassy in that country, after step one and not before.
- 03UAE Ministry of Foreign AffairsFinal attestation in Dubai, once the first two steps are complete.
Equivalency by the UAE Ministry of Education, if the degree is for a job or a visa, is a separate process and we quote it separately. Anyone who bundles it into one figure has not checked what you need it for.
PRO work, answered.
Will an apostille be accepted in the UAE?
No. The United Arab Emirates is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, so an apostille on its own is not enough. The document needs legalisation in the issuing country, attestation by the UAE embassy there, and then attestation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Does the original document have to travel?
For the first two steps, yes — the original has to be physically in the issuing country. Courier both ways is part of the job and we price it at cost.
How long does attestation take?
Weeks rather than days, because two of the three steps happen abroad. Most countries offer a faster tier at a higher government fee, and we will tell you what the options are for your country.
Can you do translation as well?
Yes — legal translation for government submission, done by a translator the authority will accept, which is not the same as any translation.
Do you work for other agents?
Often. Consultants, typing centres and PRO agents send us overflow and the work goes out under their name. Ask for trade rates.
